Stop at Starbucks for my double double espresso before heading out on Highway 90. Should be in the lone star state Texas by midday!

Go go juice ๐Ÿ™‚

Only got 50 odd miles to cover today but heading into a head wind, 12-15 mph with gusts up to 25. Going to be a slow leisurely one me thinks!

Given the choice between wind and rain, I’d choose rain anyway of the week.

Breakfast at Jake’s sandwich shop, house special wrap, double chocolate fudge brownie cheesecake and lots of water

I have absolutely no idea how many calories in this, but I imagine the number is quite obscene. Think warm chocolate sticky stodge… Unbelievable ๐Ÿ™‚

Only managing 10 mph into a headwind, which I’m ok with, but gusts seem to be getting stronger ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Stopped here for a rest break but WON’T be coming back..

Onwards westwards!

Welcome to Texas

Wildlife park just inside the state line (free entrance) about the history or swamps and the delta. I strolled around the raised wooden walkway which stood on stilts out into the swamp land,  placards and information boards explain about the indigenous people who lived in the area over a 1000 years ago. Also the local forna and flora are described in detail from rather dangerous looking snapper turtles, crocodiles and spooky bearded trees!

Hiding in the mud having a nap!

Painfully slow progress now, wind gusting headlong at 40 mph, I’ve run out of gears to keep moving forward – one gust bought me to a complete stand still. Still only half way through a 50 mile day. Should of been a 4 hour ride, but already been going 3!

Arrived in Orange, visited historical site of interest – Stark House circa 1894. Period 15 room house with original interiors and wood work. Very impressive and ANCIENT in terms ofย  American history ๐Ÿ˜‰

Time to press on towards Beaumont, I’m not going to grumble about these wind, it’s just ridiculous. Almost been blown off several time today, getting pretty fed up. 50 miles is going to feel like 150.

Last 10 was tough. Took everyday bit of energy and had to stand up to get any real sense of pprogress. Bridge into Beaumont was, with gradient, wind and traffic, extremely dangerous and almost too much for me. I ALMOST resulted to pushing.

Arrived feeling very nauseous and lacking any sense of achievement. Feel like I just want to throw up.

Horrible days ride – will need to rethink tomorrow if weather remains the same

Expenditure $16.69
