Day 64: San Diego to Saint Clemente

Posted: May 14, 2014 in America: Miami to San Francisco

Coffee at Starbucks after changing a flat tyre – I had inflated to pressure and it blew. Not a great start to the day! It is going to be 97 degrees today with a severe sun intensity so only doing 35 miles and stopping. Weather will drop down to 80’s next few days as I press in North up the coast.

Cycling out towards the coast from Mission Valley along Friars Road.

2 hours = 25 miles and joined the ocean road. Will be we enjoying thus view for thE next 500 miles!

3.20 hours = 42.9 miles. Amazing scenery cycling along the coast – far more beautiful than Florida in my opinion – small towns with character and charm, low humidity, more relaxed feel and residents seem less pretentious. Cycled through Del Mar,  Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad and Oceanside. Was scheduled to stop here but accommodation feel through so have decided to continue as it is a stunning day!

Stopped in at ‘Fine Bicycles’ in Oceanside and managed to swap a wrong size tube for a correct one. They also managed to find me a $5 campsite in Saint Clemente, less than half what most places charge – thanks Chuck!

Expenditure $9.79
